Cleaning For A Reason Extends To South Walton County

Two Maids & A Mop has always had a so-called "dead area". We define that area has the stretch of land between Santa Rosa Beach and Panama City Beach. The area is filled with plenty of potential customers, but it's simply too far for us to reach from Fort Walton Beach or Panama City. So we've always had to turn people away as a result.

But it looks like we might have a found an answer to our dilemma. A new maid service that serves our "dead area" has recently joined Cleaning For A Reason.

Of course, Cleaning For A Reason is the national, non-profit organization that teams with local cleaning companies to provide free housecleanings to women undergoing cancer treatment. It's a wonderful charity and it's an even better service that is provided as a result of the charity.

Southern Maid & A Maintenance has recently joined the charity and we'd like to welcome them to the Cleaning For A Reason charity. They serve our "dead area" and your welcome to call them if you're reading this from Highway 30A!!

1100 Women Helped Through Cleaning For A Reason!!

There’s nothing like chemotherapy to kill your will to get up and mop, wax and vacuum. That’s why cleaning crews across the nation are performing these duties without charge for women who are undergoing cancer treatment.

"I can’t make the pain go away. I can’t make the fear go away," said a co-owner of a cleaning company that supports Cleaning For A Reason. "I can’t make it better, but I can make home OK."

Downer works with Cleaning for a Reason. The nonprofit organizes professional housekeeping businesses that donate their services to women who are receiving cancer treatment.

The housekeepers will clean the house once a month for up to four months. The maximum each cleaning service will take on at a time is two patients. For a patient to qualify, physicians must verify her illness.

Debbie Sardone created the Cleaning for a Reason Foundation a little less than three years ago. By her calculation, its volunteers have donated services worth $180,000. "It’s probably been my greatest joy in my career," said Sardone, who owns a Texas-based cleaning company.

"We’ve helped over 1,100 women."

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk in Pensacola

The American Cancer Society estimates that more than 500,000 Americans will die as a result of cancer this year. Today is your day to save one of those lives.

All it takes is one mammogram. One mammogram could keep a family of four together. One mammogram could enable a newborn baby to know her mother 18 years later. One mammogram could save a life!

A mammogram is the most effective means of detecting breast cancer. Like most cancers, the earlier you detect the disease - the better your chances of surviving.

But a mammogram isn't cheap. In some cases, the test can cost nearly $300. To make it worse, most health insurance companies don't cover mammograms. And with today's skyrocketing gas prices and rising food costs, you can bet that a mother sometimes has to make a difficult decision between a preventive test or next week's rent payment.

The American Cancer Society does many great things that benefit cancer victims. One of those benefits includes free mammograms. Of course, the ACS can't provide free mammograms for everyone because the cost is just too high. So the ACS has to turn away many women that desperately require this service.

Together, we can make one less woman get turned away. Together, we can save one person's life.

On October 25th, Two Maids & A Mop is participating in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk in Pensacola. The walk is a charity event designed to raise money for the American Cancer Society.

If we reach our goal of $300, one more woman will receive a free mammogram. And ultimately, one more life may be saved.

The last couple of years have been very difficult for Dawn Pacheco.

Dawn says "I've had breast cancer for two years, nine months and I've had stage four right at about a year now." Between the disease and her treatments, she just doesn't have the energy to do much of anything these days, especially clean her own home. Dawn says "When I'm not feeling well and I'm fatigued and I'm tired, physically I just can't do it."

But now she doesn't have to, all thanks to these women with cleaning supplies in tow and smiles on their faces. Dawn says "these angels come in, they clean and they've become my friends too."
And the best part about it, Dawn doesn't have to pay them a penny.

Because of this woman, Debbie Sardone, the founder of the organization, "Cleaning for a Reason."
Her goal, to help women like Dawn living with cancer. Dawn says "in less than two years we've helped over 600 women receive free house cleaning." Dawn says "on those days when I don't feel good, it lifts my spirits just knowing that someone has cared enough to come in and done that for me. It's a great feeling."

A feeling 286 cleaning companies across 38 states nationwide have given to women like Dawn.

But for Debbie, it's only the beginning. Dawn says "we would like to see every maid service in America get involved." A small gesture that means so much. Dawn says "just gives you that inner peace that everything is going to be okay, even if just for a short period of time."

Cleaning For A Reason Patient Testimonial

I am a 3-time cancer survivor currently undergoing radiation and chemotherapy for the second time. I read about Two Maids and a Mop in the Panama City News Herald in January. I applied for the free cleaning service at that time. Due to a high demand for such a service and too few maid services willing to provide free cleaning, I had to wait until May 21 for my first cleaning.

Shelley and Jodi were assigned to clean my house. I would give them a rating of "10". They were professional, thorough, pleasant, and kind to my dog! I was very impressed and grateful to be a recipient of this free house cleaning.

Meet Panama City's First Cleaning For A Reason Patient

The following letter was sent to the editor of the local newspaper in Panama City by our first Cleaning For A Reason patient.


Dear News Herald,

My family and I would like to thank you for running the article that informed your readers concerning the organization, “Cleaning for a Reason.” Our mother has been fighting cancer for over two years and has had a very hard time with the numerous treatments. I thought it would be a welcomed gesture to contact their organization and surprise my Mom with this pleasant idea.

Cleaning for a Reason spared no time in contacting a local company, Two Maids and a Mop. An appointment was made and their company did an outstanding job. Our Mom was thrilled that she could just take it easy and not have to worry about the small stuff.

We would like to thank, Two Maids and a Mop and the organization, Cleaning For A Reason for aiding our mother during this trying and difficult time.

It is a great sensation when the public is informed about organizations that are available for individuals going through cancer or other hardships.

Again, thank you for letting us know about this wonderful resource.

Meet Maria - Our First Cleaning For A Reason Patient

Maria is our first Cleaning For A Reason patient at Two Maids & A Mop. Here's her story, in her own words.......

Maria is a wonderful woman who lives in Pensacola. She has three children, but none of them live remotely close to her home. The doctors discovered a large tumor last October and diagnosed it as colon cancer. The tumor was subsequently removed; however, doctors also found a spot on her liver. Each of her children visited her in October during her surgery and recovery. She was so grateful that her kids were able to visit with her because the only other regular contact she has is with her dog Chloe. All she could think about was how much she missed Chloe during her time in the hospital. So her son told her that he would bring Chloe to the hospital if she could gather the strength to get out of bed. And that's exactly what Maria did! It made her day just to see Chloe.

Now that her children have gone back to their homes, she is left to cope with all the chemotherapy and radiation alone. Of course, there are support groups and neighbors. But that doesn't replace the love of family or friends. Maria's doctors have ensured her that her chances of survival are good. She does everything to keep up with daily tasks, but her illness really keeps her down most days. Maria kept thanking Two Maids & A Mop and Cleaning For A Reason for helping her during this time of need.

Colleen Kealey, who manages our Pensacola office, says it best, "It is such an overwhelming feeling to give back and make a difference for someone in need."

P.S. Here are Maria's thoughts on her first house cleaning.....

"I enjoyed meeting you and the two members of your cleaning crew. It was a real treat for me to be able to just sit while my house was cleaned by two very efficient ladies. I will have to give them a 10 out of 10 for their services. They were helpful, friendly and determined to get the whole house cleaned in just 2 hours. That was quite a task considering that my house cleaning had been rather meager since my illness."
